Description
This programme focuses on the importance of healthy relationships and experiences in the earliest years of life – from pregnancy through early childhood – for lifelong development and wellbeing. Students explore how their actions as siblings, babysitters, relatives, or friends can influence the tamariki in their lives. The session draws on Te Whare Tapa Whā to understand wellbeing, and builds empathy and compassion through stories, case studies, and discussion.
Learning Outcomes
- Describe ways to strengthen the hauora of tamariki, themselves, and others
- Explain how early experiences can shape development and wellbeing
- Recognise their role in supporting the healthy growth of tamariki
- Explain the importance of ngākau aroha (empathy, compassion, kindness, love, understanding) alongside limits and boundaries
