Description

 

This programme explores adolescent development and wellbeing through the lens of Te Whare Tapa Whā. Students examine the changes happening in their brains, bodies, learning, and relationships, and reflect on the role of healthy experiences and supportive connections. Using stories, examples, and discussion, they consider how relationships and choices can influence their wellbeing and that of others.

 

Learning Outcomes

 

  • Describe how changes in the brain, body, learning, and relationships during adolescence build on earlier development and influence wellbeing.
  • Understand that adolescence is a time of opportunity, where experiences can shape their learning, relationships and wellbeing for years to come.
  • Identify what influences adolescent hauora and development (protective and risk factors), exploring the changes, choices and challenges of this time.
  • Explain the importance of supportive relationships and healthy boundaries in helping young people make choices that strengthen their own wellbeing and the wellbeing of others.
